Weight Loss Journey: Losing the first 15 pounds

Hello everyone, I hope you are doing well! Today I wanted to share something that I am super proud of- My weight loss journey. Let’s back track to last fall ( 2020). I had just returned from my doctor’s appointment, as I came back home I immediately started balling my eyes out. My weight was sky rocketing and the worst part was that I or my doctor could figure out why. There were multiple culprits for sure, my lack of physical exercise, my poor sleep schedule, and even stress. However, we really couldn’t figure out what was wrong since my labs showed that I was perfectly healthy. That is when I was at my heaviest. Since then I have managed to lose 15 pounds and counting! I didn’t do intense work outs or insane fad diets. I I lost these 15 pounds within a spam of 2-3 months by making minor changes to my diet and lifestyle. I wanted to share them with you all today, maybe it can help someone going through the same issues!

Intermitted Fasting

So this one was probably the easiest change I made, intermitted fasting. For those who don’t know, intermitted fasting is basically when you eat during a certain window of time. Everyone has their own take on it but the most common time frame is the 16/8 method. This is when you fast for 16 hours and only limit yourself to eating periodically during 8 hours. I would fast from 8 pm to 1 pm and eat from 1pm to 8. Sometimes I would do 12 pm to 7 pm as well but usually 1 to 8. This might sound like it is hard but for me it was the easiest because I would wake up super early but I would not necessarily eat food until 1 pm or sometimes much later in the day. What helped was drinking liquids such as coffee ( like black coffee), green tea and water during my fasting period- that is allowed.

Water Intake

Okay so I hate to expose myself like this but, I would never drink water. I know it is super important and your suppose to drink like 8 glasses a day but I didn’t and it would show. So when I would wake up, I made sure that I drank at least 3 glasses before eating something at 1 pm. What made it easier was that I actually had one of those reuse-able Venti Starbucks tumblrs ( literally $3 at Starbucks!) and would just fill it up and drink it from there. It was perfect since It was covered and I could just have it next to me while working or in class. Not only did it help with losing weight but my overall health improved as well. My skin felt so hydrating and there was like a natural glow to it. I felt okay not wearing makeup because of what it did for my skin. My hair felt softer as well. I am not saying that I had an instant glow up but, that is what it felt like.

Premier Protein shakes FTW

I am not gonna lie, I saw this all over my FYP page on tik tok and I was curious about whether it actually worked or not. It had very positive reviews overall but I was skeptical if this would actually help me lose weight. Boy, it definitely did. I would fill up my Starbucks venti tumblr with this and coffee. Basically I would fill up the first line with coffee and then substitute creamer with a caramel premier protein shake. I lost majority of my weight because of this in my opinion because it would suppress my hunger. There are alot of other flavors in their range but I liked caramel the most.

Diet Changes

Besides these changes, I definitely cut out a couple of things in my diet. I cut my carb intake ( super hard as I love pasta) and cut my dairy intake to little to none. This was probably the hardest thing to do. I also increased my protein intake. I don’t enjoy eating red meat so my B12 was very very low. Instead I opted for a diet that included fish and chicken. I would basically eat either grilled fish or chicken with sautéed veggies of my choice and a little bit of rice or quinoa. If I was craving something sweet, I would opt for some greek yogurt to fulfill my cravings.

I am no where near my weight goal but this is definitely a good start! These diet changes helped me start my weight loss journey and also help improve my overall health. One thing to be noted is that everyone’s body is different. Something that worked for me, might not work for you and vice versa. I still wanted to share my journey with you guys maybe it would help motivate you guys or help you with losing weight or just making lifestyle changes.
